A Hoof Heart are the small colored hearts at the bottom of one hoof of a pony. It is usually located front left or front right hoof. Its purpose is to indicate where the Hoof Magnet (the magnet used to activate playsets) is found, and this side is generally the display side. However, initially, the G3 toyline had the Hoof Heart located the opposite hoof that had the Hoof Magnet, but this was changed midway through 2003. This gave some variations where pony figurines had the Hoof Heart on the same side and ones where the Hoof Heart is on the opposite side. After 2007, however, there was a problem with the magnets being swallowed by young children and thus they were removed. As a result, so were Hoof Hearts and they were replaced with a clothes hanger that indicated the ponies that could wear the same clothing that other ponies with this symbol came with.

Hoof Hearts were also stylized a bit more as the years went on, getting more themed towards the pony it went with (i.e. Twinkle Twirl having twinkling stars) and were generally found on just about every pony released, including releases that were not the standard plastic.

Variants[]

In the first year of G3, all ponies were initially released with their hoof-heart on their display-side (the side on which their symbol appeared). Midway through the first year, this was changed so that the hoof-heart was always on the magnet leg. Because of this, ponies can be found with the heart on either her left or right leg, or both.
